Control Programs Senior Lead, VP

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a VP, Control Programs Senior Lead (internally known as Senior Lead Control Management Officer) reporting to the Control Programs Leader for Front Line Controls, Americas, within the Corporate and Investment Banking Control Management Organization. The role is based in our Toronto office.


In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership for the Americas Control Management team across various control programs, with a focus on risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) and related activities

  • Lead a community or practice to drive implementation and execution of the RCSA programs in the region as prescribed by the enterprise policy, tailored to address local regulatory requirements as necessary

  • Organize, attend and support execution of RCSA sessions for businesses and functions operating in region, leverage knowledge/expertise and background in operational risk, compliance, and financial crimes risk management to support identifying and assessing the risks for applicable services/processes

  • Support design, documentation and implementation of controls, ensuring consistent standards aligned with Internal Control policy and procedures

  • Provide support for key initiatives impacting the region as needed and will participate in other control management efforts (including issues management, risk identification, assessment and measurement, and control design and evaluation), with a focus on integration and connectivity to RCSA activities

  • Act as an advisor to more experienced leaders in developing risk mitigation strategies for complex and highly integrated business specific risk across different business lines

  • Monitor, measure, evaluate, and report impact of decisions and business controls to the relevant business group and enterprise function

  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex current and emerging risks requiring in depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, as well as good understanding of financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, and business process management

  • Provide vision, direction, and expertise to more experienced leaders on implementing innovative and significant business solutions for highly complex risks associated with business operations

  • Lead and mentor Control Management project or virtual teams

  • Engage with all levels of roles across the business group, and serve as an experienced advisor in designing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, business processes, and controls that mitigate risks and address regulatory requirements


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Risk Management or Financial Services Industry experience in risk management role or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 3+ years of Risk Controls Self Assessments (RCSA) knowledge/expertise or background in operational risk, compliance, financial crimes risk management, either first line of defence or second line of defence


Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of commercial/institutional/corporate banking businesses, their products and clients and related risk and controls

  • Understanding of best-practice risk management techniques across financial services industry

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build strong working relationships across first and second lines

  • Proven project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver solutions to meet identified objectives; ability to manage several activities with different milestones and deadlines; ability to facilitate effective meetings, drive decisions-making and accountability, track action items and deliverables, creating status reporting, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage data from multiple sources to identify and evaluate risks, solve problems

  • Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to use assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate


Job Expectations:

  • For these control programs, RCSA, key initiatives and other activities, you will:

    • provide direction and coordination for multiple workstreams

    • drive decision-making and alignment across key stakeholder groups

    • run efficient meetings/workshops with well-articulated agendas

    • define and articulate expected outcomes and deliverables with associated timelines and drive accountability

    • prepare and deliver presentations, status updates, and reporting as needed for management

    • develop strong working relationships with stakeholders across the regional control team, with global control partners and with independent risk management

    • where needed, work with Enterprise Functions Control teams to coordinate on initiatives/issues for Finance/HR/Legal/Technology/Infosec
